| The cave of Diros, part of an underground river, is located approximately 12 miles south of Areopolis, Lakonia, Greece. It is said to be the most beautiful lake cave in the world. The visit is along 1200m by boat and the return is on foot. About 5,000 meters have been exposed and accessible by small boats and through narrow passageways. Archaeological research (Dr. George Papathanasopoulos) has shown that the caves have served as places of worship in Paleolithic and Neolithic times and their inhabitants believed that the caves were the entrance to the Underworld. |
