Symi contemporary

Not so many years ago it would be unthinkable to see cultural events like this in the village of a small Aegean island. Thanks to the summer festival sponsored by the local authority and private enterprises contemporary music and modern art has become integral part of the cultural landscape of Symi.

Vassilis Kokkas (1965) is Greek-German composer born in Athens, where he lives and works. He studied piano, higher music theory, and composition in Athens and graduated in composition from the Superior School of Fine Arts, Berlin, under Walter Zimmermann. He also studied electroacoustic music at the studio of the Technical University, Berlin. His works for mixed instrument ensembles, voice, tape, symphonic orchestra, electroacoustic music and music for computers, and music for experimental films have been performed for the most part in festivals and contemporary music series. He integrates white noise and sine waves, and makes use of mild digital processing of space recordings, while following different paths on a constant exploration of the aesthetic nature of sonic images and signals as the limits of collective, personal, and cosmic noise.

Score Composing Manolis Manoussakis was born in 1975. He studied musicology at Deere College and Film Directing and Music Composition at Columbia College, Manolis Manoussakis has both film directing and music composition samples of work in his portfolio. His latest work includes music composition for theatre in Athens.
