Milos of Venus part 5 The caves

Captain Elias and I take you around this beautiful Cycladitic island mainly known for its Venus. This is the fifth and final part of the excursion, a visit of the caves at the Kleftiko area and of the rocks with animal forms. With breath taking landscapes in the background we highlight the social, economic and natural history of the island, within its East Mediterranean context, with special references to the pre-history, shipping tradition, piracy, literature, geology and mining economy as well as to the critically endangered monk seal species Monachus monachus.

The Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus) is a pinniped belonging to the Phocidae family. At some 450-510 remaining individuals, it is believed to be the world's second-rarest pinniped (second only to the Saimaa ringed seal), and one of the most endangered mammals in the world. It is present in parts of the Mediterranean Sea and the eastern Atlantic Ocean waters around the Tropic of Cancer, as well.
